Looks like the 2nd side is approx 35 to 40 degrees down angle, not 20. The first side was shallower and looked to be about 30 degrees to me. Still, can't argue with the final results!

You can technically feel if the chain is sharp with your thumb, finger, finger nail. When it is sharp there will be a burr sticking up above the tooth. Easily felt if you run your thumb, finger, fingernail from back to front on top of the tooth. Dont forget to check the side plate too.

Appreciate all your Videos,and going into so much detail about Spurs. Helps me decide what to buy as well. Saves beginners alot of time.

Your reason for using the guide is correct. I was using the 7/32 file that Buck recommends. I got a great C gullet but was not getting the top plate. Using the guide I got the top plate (and burrs) and corrected my angle. With just the file my angle was to shallow. I sometimes have to first do the gullet then the top to get the correct profile but not sure I even have to do the gullet. Thank you, only took me 10 years to figure out how to sharpen a saw correctly.

Came back after 2 years to refresh in my standard cut. This video kept me safe over a winter harvesting trees and armour stones. Just read Jed died 😢. My condolences to all. He helped a young crew make it home.

I almost thought you were based in California when I heard the battery chain saw! Finally glad to see you grab the real Stihl gas chain saw when you got into larger size wood. I would hate to be a tree service based in California with them outlawing gas powered tools. Trying to cut down large trees with a battery chain saw - just add 3 hrs to the job because we have so wait for all the batteries to recharge! 😂

for the bore cut is it always better to cut from inside out or is there time you should pull the saw out and finish from the outside in?

I worked for a tree company back in the 90's trimming trees away from power lines. Unfortunately, I was young, and nobody really trained us properly. Tieing a knot in the end was almost frowned upon because of how hard it was to get loose when getting to the end. To make a long story short, my break hung up once and when I finally got it to loosen I went down, fast. Thankfully I got it to engage but I only had about a foot of rope left until I was no more lol I was no good in a tree after that and found a different line of work Still, I enjoy the amount of skill and bravery it takes to do this job. You guys are awesome!

I haven’t used my tree climbing equipment for 10 years now. My neighbor and I now have trees that need to be felled. Climbing them is the only way to ensure they don’t hit our houses. I’ve found that I’m now afraid of heights or is it that I’m so nervous because I have to get back in the saddle?
